This was an end to our unbeaten run and a massive wake up call for Vista FC. Over the past 13 games Vista have adopted a die-hard ability to mix football with hard work and grit. Yesterday for the first time in 14 games we remained sloppy throughout the whole game and were unable to rectify that. Complacency had crept into our performance and unlike previous games we couldn’t find the right solution to the problem. There were a number of changes in the lineup but many are title and trophy winners on many occasions so that was no excuse.
The game started quite slow with both teams quite orthodox and not really threatening. Vista FC tried to play through the lines but Mildean were organized within the middle and the state of the pitch played a destructive part in stopping Vista’s usual fluent football. Vista has benefitted from pressing high and destructing other teams flow but today Vista suffered with a dose of our own medicine.
While playing cautious Mildean didn’t really offer too much going forward and for a part of the game they were sat deep often with 9 men behind the ball but to their credit they pushed forward and caught Vista with a goal that was probably unexpected just before half term.
Based on our current form the players looked quite comfortable and played as if they were sure we would equalize but instantly after half time Mildean decided to gamble an opportunity which led from a mix up in the defense which led to another goal. At this point Vista were 2-0 down and the puzzled and confused looks spread throughout the team. Probably realizing they had an opportunity to win Mildean then battled for every ball all over the pitch often winning their individual battles.
Vista struggled for an answer to their physical presence and another mix up in the defense led to Mildean scoring their third and final goal. Changes were made and Vista went 3 at the back with Ambrose Kamara joining up front to partner Andrew Thompson. There was an initial change in the pressure on Mildean but they soaked it up well. Little tackles and unsettling our players at key times kept Vista at bay. The continued pressure led to Vista getting a penalty and Andrew Thompson converting but it was a little too late. Mildean had soaked up all the attacks and were well deserving of the 3-1 win.
Vista face Mildean next week in the return leg. Lets hope we can get a win!
