Vista vs Club Langley ( Away )

Football is a funny old game and today showed that. Vista FC playing in our first cup game of the season knew we’d face a mental test playing against a team that previously was a thorn in our side. 2 seasons ago after going 2-0 up Club Langley were able to force a 3-3 out of us and go on to beat us in what was a painful but probably deserved result given the position we were in.
Today Vista started brightly moving the ball about well, competing for every ball and using width. We clearly showed our dominance and threatened repeatedly for 25 minutes. Andrew Thompson and Aaron Southard were making intelligent runs and creating problems which followed by Andrew Thompson providing some great ball control from a through pass only to be tackled before slotting the ball home.Shortly after some great exciting interchange play raised the spirits of full back Jordan Taylor who was our teams man of the match. Pushing forward to join in with the attack he received the ball 30 yards out and shot a pile driver into the bottom left hand side of the goal. On about the 25th minute some great play and an amazing outside of the foot pass from Ashley Sheppard made it’s way to Aaron Southard who coolly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper.
It was disappointing but this is where Vista’s first half ended. The next 20 minutes were lackluster and the display was of a team who believed they had already won the game, which was disrespectful to the opponents.
Half time arrived and even after stern words Vista couldn’t seem to find the fluidity they had shown in the first half. Club Langley pushed forward and deservedly managed to score a goal. Throughout the next 15 minutes Club Langley continued to provide maximum effort and had it not been for poor finishing they may have equalized.
At this point we made various substitutions to reinvigorate the side. Instantly after entering the pitch Ohran Stewart provided an attacking threat. Although his actions may have been selfish he showed some intent to increase the score line, which was previously missing. Now with only 10 minutes to go and the game possessing no real quality Ohran Stewart got his reward. A move that started with him ended with him doing a reverse shot low into the corner of the goal and sealing the points for Vista.
Vista can be happy with the win but for a team with ambitions such as cups and regaining the league this wasn’t good enough. Lets hope for better next week.

MOM – Jordan Taylor
