Eden Park 2 – 1 Vista FC

Having played Eden Park twice this season where in the initial game they were considerably weaker than they’d have liked to be, this game happened to be our karma for taking full advantage. A severely weakened squad through injury, which included Damani Campbell coming out of retirement and donning the goalkeeper gloves. This situation would most likely prove to be our undoing as 25 minutes into the game, a harmless shot from outside the box trickled in off the post. A normal keeper would have most likely read the shot better but we couldn’t be too harsh as the goal was still quite unfortunate. Given the situation Eden Park threatened more but many of the shots were from long distance with the aim to capitalize on our non-goalkeeper situation. Unfortunately 30 minutes in we lost Adrian Browne to injury that affected an already severely weakened squad.

We went in 1-0 down but still with plenty to play for. It was quite beneficial that although we had a substitute goalkeeper Eden Park also gifted us a goal via a goalkeeping error from their side. A harmless and tame effort seemed to deflect into the path of Carlton Murray-Price who bundled the goal home. Eden Park’s midfields were probably the strong point of their performance, which allowed them to stay on top despite Vista trying to get a hold of the game.

A tame goal kick from Eden Park was flicked on from their central striker and not dealt with by the Vista defense. Faced 1 on 1 with our defender Eden Park’s striker turned inside before firing which was not a great effort but once again beating our stand-in goalkeeper.

The remainder of the game was quite tame but Eden Park deserved this win having competed for every ball throughout the game.
