This was potential banana skin for FC Vista. Having conceded 11 goals in 4 games and having won only one of our opening 4 games the doubters were starting to assume that we weren’t the same team anymore. Although you assume this won’t leak into the camp but many questions were asked of our own team and we had to get back to winning ways quickly before it affected our confidence. Fortunately though management never doubted our quality and were assured that given the return of a few influential players our fortunes would return.
The return of players such as Victor Okisor, Aaron Southard and Ashley Sheppard in attacking roles and the return in a defensive position of Kwabena Osei would steady the ship. We welcomed the inclusion of new signing Jordan Brooks and his performance really emphasized what Vista is about.
From the 1st minute of the game we threatened and had Aaron Southard or Omari Hibbert finished their chances we would have been off to a blinding start. Although we had some quite easy chances the opening goal came by what can only be a misplaced cross by Siao Blackwood from the left side which ended up in the top corner of the goal.
Our threat was so potent throughout and Ash Sheppard got back to his performance levels of the previous season with great interplay between himself and Omari Hibbert. A great cross which Aaron Southard finished and then despite being disallowed a perfectly good goal stayed focused to convert a chance into a goal 2 minutes after the decision.
Once Vista reaches full velocity we’re very hard to stop and this was proved in the second half of the game. Victor Okisor was a constant threat with his pace and accurate crossing and Sheppard always seemed to be in the right place. Aaron Southard converted an amazing cross with an inch perfect header which ended up in the angle, while Victor got his reward with a pile driver of a shot which beat the keeper after another successful run.
Andrew Thompson got his goal after coming on in the late part of the game to continue his goal scoring feats but we could have had so much more. Stef Wright was so positive once coming on and if not for the crossbar he would have had scored possibly the best goal this season.
A game like this normally ends up with a lot of plaudits for the attacking players but there were many notable performances by non-attackers such as Adrian Browne, Kwabena Osei, Danny Doyle and the games star player Jordan Brooks. We hope this game acts as a springboard for us to push on and achieve one of our unbeaten runs once again.
